Homebrew Channel Already Installed?

If you happened to have softmodded with something else and just want to get updated. You can do this guide, starting here.

4. Next to verify your files are good. This is important as bad files can lead to a brick. On your Computer, go to your SD Card and open md5summer.exe.
a. Select 'Verify Sums' then click 'ModPack.md5'. It should verify without errors.
b. Again, select 'Verify Sums' and do the same for CIOS-PACK.md5 and IOS Update.md5. They both should verify without errors. If you get errors on any part, format your SD Card, re-download the files from Chapter 2 and repeat this step. If you don't get in errors, continue on!
5. Installing the .wad's.
NOTE: If a WAD fails during this progress, try to install it again. If it fails again, Press B to go back to the Main Menu, select 'Reload iOS' then Reload iOS236 then go back and try to install the WAD that was giving trouble again. DO NOT CONTINUE UNTIL ALL WAD's INSTALL.
5a. Start Homebrew Channel then press 'Home' on the WiiMote and then select 'Load BootMii'.
5b. Multi-Mod Manager (via cboot2) will load up.
5c. Navigate down to 'WAD Manager' and Press A.
5d. Press '1' on the Wii Mote then Press A. This is a quick way to install all in one go. All 28 WAD's should install without error (VERY IMPORTANT!). Press Any Button to Continue.
NOTE: Make sure all 28 WADs Install, do NOT continue if you get any error! Also, note, NEVER UNINSTALL IOS OR SYS MENUS OR YOU WILL BRICK.
5e. Navigate to the 'System Menu 4.1' folder and Press A, then press '1' again then press 'A'. All 3 WAD's should install without error! (VERY IMPORTANT!). Press Any Button to Continue.
NOTE: This is a version patched System Menu which runs version patched cIOS60. NEVER try to replace cIOS60-v54321 with iOS60-v6174. Never Update Accept an Update from Nintendo. Never try to screw up cIOS60-v54321. Failing to heed either warning can cause a brick! You've been warned! If you're updating your iOS and Channels, follow the part below in the spoiler, if not, skip past the spoiler and continue right after it.

Updating iOS and Shop Channel

These two parts are if you chose to download the iOS Update and/or Wii Shop Channel Update Packs above. Note, users running 4.3 already do not need to do these.
Updating All IOS
a. Once done above, press B to go back a folder, then navigate to the folder called 'IOS-Update' and press A.
b. Now, Press '1' then press A, this install all files at once. Make sure ALL 25 WADs install without error (very important again!).
c. Press Any Button to Continue.
NOTE: These iOS are used by Wii Channels and DVD Games loaded on the Disc Channel, USB Loading doesn't use them but it's useful to keep your Wii Up-to-date.
Updating Wii Shop Channel
a. Once done above, press B to go back a folder, then navigate to the folder called 'Channels' and press A.

6. Press 2 to load the MMM App Manager, once in there, select and launch the 'HomeBrew Channel Loader'. You should now be back in the Homebrew Channel.

6B. IF YOU ARE REGION CHANGING YOUR WII: DO THIS NOW

Wii Region Change
You will be changing to the region you installed above.
You can change to any region you like, even Korean.
Warning failure to complete this step could result in a semi brick, which could be unrecoverable- especially for KOREAN Wiis changing to another region. Make sure you do don't restart the Wii until the
softmod is complete.
This is most common when changing Korean/Japan wiis to USA
DO NOT RESTART THE WII UNTIL THIS PROCESS IS COMPLETE
Wii Shop Users-
If you use the Wii Shop channel, you must go into the wii shop and delete your account before starting chapter 2 of this guide. If you don't the wii shop will error.
Supported TV display-This is important
Ensure that your tv supports the display of the region you are changing to. If your TV does not support PAL, don't region change to PAL. Same goes for NTSC. If your TV does not support your selected display, you won't be able to see
the wii screen anymore.
From the HBC-
Launch ARCmod06_Offline
Select IOS236 - press A
Read the WARNING- press 1
You will see this error at the top screen 'WARNING: AREA: SysMenu MISMATCH!'
This means your semi-bricked- which we are going to fix.
Use the wiimote, go down to-'system menu 4.1 installer'
Select 'System Menu Region'
Change the region to USA (or Europe or Jap or KOREAN)
Go down to 'Auto set from System Menu Region' -Press A
'WARNING: AREA: SysMenu MISMATCH!' error will go away,
make sure it goes away
Do not install system menu 4.1
Verify that your settings are correct
Exit to the Homebrew Channel(do not restart)
HBC will loads

7. Now from Homebrew Channel, select and launch 'Priiloader'. This will bring you to Priiloader installer, read the warning, then press '+' or 'A' on the Wii Mote. Once done, you should be back in the Homebrew Channel.
8. Hold reset and keep holding reset until Priiloader loads. (If the Wii freezes, hold power for 10 seconds then try again, If Multi-Mod Manager loads, delete the 'bootmii' folder from your SD Card).
9a. Navigate to 'System Menu Hacks' and Press A. From there, enable any hacks you'd like, I recommend enabling the following; Block Disk Updates, Block Online Updates, Remove Diagnostic Disc Check, Move Disc Channel. If you don't know what any of the other hacks do, then you shouldn't use it!
9b. Navigate to Save Settings then Press A. Then, press B to go back to the Priiloader Menu.
9c. Select 'Load/Install file' then Install USBLoaderCFG.dol
Your Wii is now able to block both disc and online updates, move around the Disc Channel and even auto-boot your USB Loader if you like.
9d. In the Priiloader Main Menu, you can set your Wii to autoboot the regular System Menu, Homebrew Channel, Priiloader or the USB Loader (great for kids!). Simply set 'Return To' to Autoboot and the Autoboot option to whatever you want it start up to then it'll do so. For example, if you set it to Autoboot: 'Installed File', it'll automatically load-up CFG USB Loader on boot.
Chapter 3 - The Final Step
Format your SD Card for one last time, again, you must do this. Download and Extract this App Pack.zip to the root of your SD Card.
Boot up your Wii Main Menu and you will see the following now installed;
CFG USB Loader - This is a Forwarder and loads a USB Loader off an SD Card or USB Hard Drive.
Backup Disc Channel - This is an Autobooting mod of Neogamma, which will autoboot discs. You can press any button while the game is loading to access the menu. It's a full fledged channel so doesn't boot from an SD or USB.
Backup Homebrew Channel - You will see a Channel with Black Waters named Backup HBC. This is installed as a backup to run homebrew should your Wii get damaged/brick and you need it. Unless you need to use it, do NOT use it. Never uninstall this wad (Title ID 'MAUI'). You can keep it on your Wii or on the SD Card but never uninstall it. If you'd like, you can move it to the far right of the main menu (by holding B then selecting a channel by Pressing A). It's installed as a safety measure should ever need to use it.Wad
Next, there are some helpful apps on your SD Card, that includes Homebrew Browser, WiiMC, CFG USB Loader and SaveGame Manager GX. Wii Homebrew also has many more apps to try. All Apps are installed to your SD Card or you can keep them on your FAT32 USB Flash Drive (no NTFS support :( ). Apps are installed like this: SD:appsappnameboot.dol or they won't load.

Loading Backups FAQ:

cIOS - These are what are used to load your backups and you have quiet a few to choose from. This setup should be good enough to load any game to date. Most loaders like USB Loader GX, WiiFlow and Neogamma now just auto-detect what cIOS a game needs. However, if you need to know what's installed.
Hermes: cIOS202[57]-v5.1r rodries mod
Hermes: cIOS222[38]-v4, cIOS223[37-38]-v4, cIOS224[57]-v5.1r
Wanikoko: cIOS245[base-55]-v21d2x7, cIOS246[base-53]-v21d2x7, cIOS247[base-37]-v21d2x7, cIOS248[base-56]v21d2x7, cIOS249[base-38]v21d2x7, cIOS250[base-57]v21d2x7, cIOS251[base58]-v21d2x7
CFG USB Loader has been set to use cIOS248[Base-56]v21d2x7. This cIOS should load almost any game but sometimes there are some games that require a different ciOS, if so, you can ask and when someone gives you an answer, you can just set settings for that game alone to load a specific cIOS.
Older Legacy Apps are covered since they'll use iOS249[38]v21d2x7 just fine.
Loading From Disc
New wii dvd drives will not read backup discs, no mater what. Does my wii load dvds? If it is new, probably not. Discs suck anyway, usbloading is much better. Disks must be loaded from a disk loader, like the neogamma channel installed on your wii. They will not work from the disk channel, unless you installed darkcorp. GC backups can be loaded from the disc channel without issue, if your drive reads burned dvds. Be sure to burn your dvds good and prooper. Burn them with ImgBurn, slowly 1-4x, set the 'Layer Break' to 2084960 for dual layer games, on verbatim dvd -r. Other discs may work, but these are considered the best.
Loading From USB
Loading from USB is the ultimate option and it works on ALL Wii's. It requires a compatible HDD and needs it formatted to either FAT32, NTFS or WBFS but I'd recommend FAT32 or secondarily NTFS but it's up to you. I'd recommend formatting it to FAT32, then use Wii Backup Manager to copy your ISO's from your PC to your HDD as wbfs files (It can download cover art if you like). You can also use the USB Loader on your Wii to rip games from your original Discs onto the Hard Drive.
1. Get a compatible Hard Drive
2. Format it to FAT32 with FAT32_GUI_Formatter.zip
3. Copy games from your PC to your Hard Drive using WiiBackupManager.zip or you can rip your original DVDs to your Hard Drive using the Wii USB Loader.

Click to expand. That's the big question, isn't it? I've poked around every place I can think of to ask what exactly people have tried and not tried on an LU64.I'd love to revert my IOS36 and get preloader going so I could move on to IOS60/menu hacks, but hell if I'm going to guineapig it. I find it somewhat ironic that Bootmii was supposed to be the end-all of brick protection, but all it really seems to have offered is a way for LU64 users to slit their own throats via cBoot2. Hell those of us without GC controllers can't even do a dump because the menu doesn't work, not that we'd have any way to revert to the dump. I know TT has said over and over that there's not likely to be a boot2 solution, but they could at least give us something preloader-like to bootstrap the IOS version during startup. Inserted into the boot process, BootMii provides you with a 'safety net' -- you can back up your entire Wii to SD in under three minutes!

If you were to brick your Wii, BootMii would still run and let you restore your backup from SD, quickly and painlessly. BootMii also allows you to directly boot the Homebrew channel or other homebrew from SD, bypassing the 'warning screen' and the rest of the menu. I'm well aware of the back-end significance of bootmii for developers, but the 'public face' has been all about brick protection in the majority of the comments I've seen made by TT.
